Delivering strategy by bringing values to life
The Challenge
- Addleshaw Goddard is a 1,200 strong legal practice that delivers client services through their three offices in London, Leeds and Manchester. The firm were approaching the 2nd anniversary of their merger, the process and structural changes were nearly complete, and the five year strategy had been laid out.
- However, they needed to focus on culture to define more clearly how the firm would achieve its vision and goals for the next five years.
Key issues
- Lacking a set of guiding principles to inspire pride, confidence and positively assert its distinctive identity
- No common standards set around decision making and behaviours
The solution
- We began with a series of conversations inside and outside the firm, exploring achievements, challenges and hopes for the future and used our WoW methodology (ways of working) to derive key themes - validated by partners.
- We designed and ran a set of 100 workshops around the organisation to introduce guiding principles which over 80% of staff attended, critical in bringing the values to life.
The results
- For the first time, Addleshaw Goddard was named in the Sunday Times 2006 100 Best Companies to Work For
- They now have a set of values lived not laminated and we are helping to further support the behaviours and the 'Addleshaw Goddard Way' with an emphasis on leadership and communication.
